Firmware Engineering Manager - DYMO Job

The Firmware Engineering Manager will participate as a member of an R&D team responsible for developing the electronics and firmware for new thermal printers, digital scales and business card scanners. They will work under general project level supervision in an independent manner, responsible for carrying out assignments of moderate to high difficulty and strategic impact on the overall project. Specific responsibilities include definition, programming, documentation, prototyping, debugging, testing, qualification, and release to production of reliable and cost effective embedded firmware solutions. Major design areas include motion control; print head control systems, host IO communications (USB and other), A/D conversion, CCD scanning control, microprocessor and memory systems.
This person will work cross functionally with: Product Marketing, Project Managers, Outside test agencies and contractors, Software development, SW/FW test team, offshore manufacturers, QA/QC
Essential Responsibilities:
·Work under general project level supervision in an independent manner, responsible for carrying out assignments of moderate to high difficulty and strategic impact on the overall project.
·Specific responsibilities include definition, programming, documentation, prototyping, debugging, testing, qualification, and release to production of reliable and cost effective embedded firmware solutions.
·Expected to work with manufacturing, Customer Assurance, and R & D engineers to identify and resolve product manufacturability, reliability and functionality issues.
·Responsible to help investigate new technologies, tools, and practices that may be potentially beneficial to product development or the Newell-Rubbermaid Technology Global Business Unit.
·Will manage two Firmware engineers, including setting goals and objectives, providing feedback and development, in a team environment to ensure achievement of the team's goals.

Education : Minimum Degree: BSEE Preferred Degree: MSEE

Experience:
· Excellent skills in C and assembly language programming of embedded microcontrollers is required
· Proficient at functional design, system architectural design and state diagramming is required Demonstrate a working knowledge and experience designing firmware for analog and/or digital systems required.
· Ability to solve technical problems in a fast paced product development environment is required.
· Ability to work independently under time and resource constraints is required.
· Demonstrate a working knowledge of EE fundamentals, digital circuit design, control theory, microprocessor architectures and design-tools is required.
· Ability to work and interact effectively with members and individuals from other disciplines, projects, functional areas, divisions, and companies is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Proficient in C and assembly language programming of embedded microcontrollers.
· Be familiar with host, printer, firmware/hardware interactions and compatibility issues.
· Familiarity and experience with software and firmware development and debugging tools.
· To solve technical problems in a fast paced product development environment.
· To work independently under time and resource constraints.
· To interact effectively with members and individuals from other disciplines, projects, functional areas, divisions, and companies.
· Be familiar with application of direct thermal or similar technology to printers.
