Industrial Design Intern Job

This is a job summary which includes essential job duties of the position. More specific information regarding duties may be provided upon request for particular locations and facilities.
The Industrial Design intern will add value by maximizing the number of concepts/ideas created on a project. This may involve research, concept development, protyping, texture documents, etc. You will work with an individual designer supporting their design efforts. You will also be a part of team brainstorm sessions. (This will include: Concept Sketching, Model Making, Trend Research, Consumer Research and Maintaining the Materials Library.) Other duties include:
- Responsible to work in a cross-functional team environment assisting the Manager, R&D Design, from concept to finished product; Assist the NPD team on the research element of product development, working closely with the product development teams Manager in the development process to illustrate design ideas.
- Develop and design concepts for new products and product lines (Prototyping / modeling of design concepts) to demonstrate their appearance and evaluate functionality.
- Work with freehand sketches as well as CAD models in both 2D and 3D, using programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Alias, Rhino or Pro-E.
- Assist the Design Manager or respective associate in developing and designing merchandising concepts.
The intern will take on support tasks for the department assisting the Sample lab technician on any needed projects. (This will include activities such as: Purchasing Supplies, Maintaining Equipment and Resources, Formatting and Mounting Presentations.)
· Pursuing a bachelors or master degree in Industrial Design from a respective university.
· Working knowledge of basic Industrial Design tool and process and prototype skills.
· Design Skills including Sketching, Model Making, Research and Data Collection, Communication and Presentation, Design/CAD Software (Pro-E, Rhino, Hypershot, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Alias, or similar) preferred.
· Preferred qualifications include contextual research skills: Trend analysis, Product insights, and Competitor charts preferred.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills from verbal to 2D sketching. 3D modeling would be a plus.
· Highly developed conceptual, creative and analytical skills; a self starter with proven critical thinking and problem solving skills - identify problems, potential problems, and develop solutions for smooth work flow. Ideation and excellent sketching skills
· Demonstrated flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously while taking initiative on projects, driving them to timely completion.
· Demonstrated experience of working in a cross functional project team environment and independently.
